Harvey Elliott The Youngest Performer in Liverpool's History
Harvey Elliott made his competitive debut for Liverpool at the age of 16 years 174 days against MK Dons.
For the first time in three years, Liverpool made it through the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, aka the English League Cup, after beating the League One (Division III) MK Dons 2-0.
Although Jurgen Klopp played a lot of young people in the match at the MK Stadium on Thursday (9/26) early morning hrs, Liverpool proved still too tough for the host.
One of the youngsters who came down for the Reds was summer recruit Harvey Elliott, and his name is now listed in the record books as the club's youngest performer.
MK Dons's contra party was Elliott's competitive debut for Liverpool, done in the new age of 16 years 174 days. The former Fulham winger was trusted by Klopp to act in full 90 minutes.
"Still 16 years old and this type of football is very good for us. Children are brilliant, handle situations very well, want to learn," said the boss after the game.
"Tonight he will always be a special player for a few moments, but his overall performance shows up when you see him survive, when you see his moves are very smart, it is not easy to pass."
"That was very, very good and his left foot wasn't too bad either. A little unlucky, otherwise he would have scored."
James Milner broke the deadlock for Liverpool at the end of the first half before defender Ki-Jana Hoever cemented the win after halftime. The young Dutch defender became the fourth youngest goalscorer in Liverpool's history (17 years, eight months and seven days).
In the next round, Liverpool will host Arsenal at Anfield, 30 October.
